Papayas many talents

I'm such a sucker for papaya (red papaya to be exact9! It has to be one of my favourite tropical fruits. And thank god for that as it has so many ridiculous medicinal benefits, most due to the enzyme called papain.

It's high in vitamins and minerals, such as Vitamin C, Vitamin A, and potassium. It also contains an enzyme called papain, which is known to have a variety of health benefits. Some studies suggest that red papaya may have potential benefits for gut health by:

  • Promoting digestion: Papain, the enzyme found in red papaya, is known to aid in the digestion of proteins and can help to relieve symptoms of indigestion and bloating.
  • Supporting gut microflora: Red papaya is a good source of dietary fiber, which can help to promote the growth of healthy gut bacteria and support a healthy gut microbiome.
  • Reducing inflammation: Some studies suggest that the anti-inflammatory compounds found in red papaya may help to reduce inflammation in the gut, which can help to alleviate symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
  • Improving gut barrier function: The high levels of Vitamin A and Vitamin C found in red papaya may help to support the health of the gut lining and improve gut barrier function.
